“Greening of Humanitarian Assistance: A Donor Policy Mapping and Analysis”, Fiona Cook and Samantha Brangeon (Co-Facilitators of the Donor Greening Working Group), July 2026

This report – produced with financial assistance from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) – aims to enhance understanding of donors’ ambitions and expectations in terms of the greening of humanitarian assistance, whilst promoting learning and joint action. It builds on earlier analyses by the same authors and focuses on reducing the climate and environmental footprint of humanitarian aid (mitigation), rather than adaptation. The report explores donor policies and approaches, funding, collective action, and measures donors are adopting to reduce their own climate and environmental footprints. 

On 12 November from 3.00 pm to 4.15 pm CET, a webinar, jointly organized by the WREC Coalition and the Donor Greening Group (DGG), will explore emerging donor priorities, key sustainability initiatives, and their implications for humanitarian operations and supply chains. The session will feature the launch of the Donor Policy Mapping and Analysis on the Greening of Humanitarian Assistance, alongside perspectives from donors, the Humanitarian Leadership Group on Supply Chains (HLGSC), and the Climate and Environment Charter Secretariat.
