Action Contre la Faim’s Environmental Policy, May 2022

Published on 1 May 2022

In 2022, ACF adopted an environment and climate policy based on 3 main commitments: evaluating their impact, reducing it, and encouraging other aid actors to do the same. This policy covers environmental aspects (soil pollution, biodiversity loss, etc.) which are addressed by means of environment audits and related mitigation measures. Climate and greenhouse gas emissions are covered in specific paragraphs which focus on reduction measures, the development of disaster risk reduction programmes and longer-term climate change adaptation.

The policy does not establish a list of reduction measures as there are many specific objectives for particular sectors and activities which are covered in the policies and procedures of the relevant sectors. As much as possible, the targets fixed by the policy are precise and measurable. In areas where research is needed before concrete targets can be established (for example, in relation to early warning systems), the policy defines areas that need to be developed.

The environment and climate policy is coordinated by an environment committee which was launched at the beginning of 2023.
