Overcoming data collection challenges: Getting started with limited data, navigating data gaps, sector insights and peer experience sharing.

Last week, at the Humanitarian Carbon Calculator (HCC) peer support community, we started moving from theory to practice with an introductory demo on the calculator tool. 

Now, we are kickstarting a series of technical sessions: targeted deep-dives for practitioners facing specific operational bottlenecks in their carbon accounting journey. You can find the HCC online webinar series overview, open to all humanitarian practitioners, here. We all know perfect data does not exist, especially in complex humanitarian settings. This technical session addresses how organisations can embark on carbon accounting despite limited resources, data gaps, or incomplete activity records. It bridges the gap between the HCC tool and the broader Carbon footprinting toolkit, supported by real-world peer experiences. What to expect: Strategies for building an initial footprint baseline using proxy data and conservative estimations.Critical insights from the Climate Action Accelerator team on overcoming the most common data collection bottlenecks.Peer-to-peer exchange on successful data gathering techniques from active HCC community members.
