At People in Need, the organization believes that humanitarian and development work must address urgent needs while protecting the environment on which everyone depends. In recent years, it has adopted measures to make its operations and project activities more sustainable. Guided by the “do no harm” principle, it has focused on the most impactful and feasible actions and supported its teams in 20 countries to implement them effectively.
Although some efforts were challenging, thanks to the commitment of its colleagues, the organization has managed to achieve hundreds of positive changes across its work. The report captures its journey, lessons, and results – from reducing emissions and saving resources to improving procurement and waste management. It also highlights how People in Need has helped local partners green their operations and how its projects increasingly integrate environmental considerations through risk screening and meaningful mitigation measures.
