Environmental Mainstreaming in Humanitarian Action – Lessons Learned, DG Echo, September 2025

Published on 9 September 2025

Over the past year, DG ECHO has worked with its humanitarian partners to capture key lessons, challenges, and opportunities for greening humanitarian action across sectors. This process explored how environmental sustainability can be systematically integrated into humanitarian operations without compromising the timeline of life saving efforts or impact.

The findings draw on DG ECHO field visits worldwide and five online regional workshops held between September and October 2024, which brought together more than 530 participants, including partners and other stakeholders.

The resulting publication, Environmental Mainstreaming in Humanitarian Action – Lessons Learned, is now available online on the DG ECHO website.
