You can find more details in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unhcr.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-09\/waste-management-concept-note.pdf\">UNHCR Waste Management Programme Concept Note<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1) First pilot: Ethiopia \u2013 Workshop Announcement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the Ethiopia pilot, UNHCR will host the&nbsp;<strong>WISE CIRCLE Initiative Workshop<\/strong>&nbsp;(hybrid format) on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Addis Ababa<\/strong>\u00a0(venue TBC)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Monday, 09 March 2026<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>09:00\u201317:00h (Ethiopia time)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Participants:\u00a0<\/strong>this workshop is designed for\u00a0<strong>field practitioners in Ethiopia and the Somali Region<\/strong>\u00a0who are engaged or interested in waste management in humanitarian settings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Participation is limited to\u00a0<strong>30 in\u2011person<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>20 online<\/strong>\u00a0participants.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Registration is on a first\u2011come, first\u2011served basis; therefore, we encourage you to submit your form as soon as possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Due to limited space,\u00a0<strong>registration does not guarantee in\u2011person participation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you prefer to attend in person, please indicate this. Further details \u2013 including the agenda, preparatory materials, and the connection link \u2013 will be shared with confirmed participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2) About the Ethiopia Pilot<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ethiopia pilot focuses on the Melkadida and Jiijiga refugee camps in Somali Region, aiming to identify waste management gaps and solutions in place and engaging different partners to build a sustainable solution which can strengthen the management of waste in these two locations. A joint&nbsp;<strong>mapping and assessment mission<\/strong>&nbsp;will analyse needs and current initiatives in the region. Findings will feed into a&nbsp;<strong>roadmap and action plan<\/strong>&nbsp;for piloting practical, circular, and sustainable waste solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the\u00a0<strong>WISE CIRCLE<\/strong>\u00a0initiative (Waste Innovation for Sustainable Emergencies &amp; Collaborative Initiative for Resource &amp; Circular Economy), UNHCR, the\u00a0<strong>Logistics Cluster (WREC)<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>UNHRD<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>WFP<\/strong>\u00a0are working together to build shared approaches and avoid duplicating parallel activities \u2013 supporting more collective and sustainable solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3) Project presentation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UNHCR project will also be presented globally (online) at the next&nbsp;WREC Waste Management Coordination Group meeting&nbsp;on the&nbsp;25 February,&nbsp;at 16h Ethiopia time (14h CET):&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/events.teams.microsoft.com\/event\/d6439bf5-b7dc-439a-b263-8cd45fd17fe7@462ad9ae-d7d9-4206-b874-71b1e079776f\">registration link<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNHCR is launching the&nbsp;Waste Management Programme in Refugee Settings, a new initiative piloting in&nbsp;Ethiopia, Chad, and Mauritania&nbsp;to reduce and minimize environmental impacts across its supply chain.
